About Shillong Teer – History and How the Game Works
This is a traditional archery-based game with deep roots in Meghalaya, especially within Khasi community life. Archers shoot arrows at a target, and the outcome depends purely on how many arrows land on it — nothing digital or automated about it.
Local clubs organise the rounds at grounds in and around Shillong. Each day, a group of archers shoot close to 25–30 arrows in the first round, followed by a second round a little later. The last two digits of the total count become that round’s result.
This straightforward format is part of why the game has remained a fixture for generations, especially across Meghalaya and neighbouring Assam. Over time, interest has spread well beyond just the local community — people from various parts of the Northeast, and even outside the region, now check the daily numbers regularly, making this one of the more widely followed traditional games in the area.
